Tips When Prepping for the Installation of Your Patio Doors
If you are considering performing a DIY patio door installation project, you need to read this post on what you need to do before you install the actual doors.
The door must be 2-inches shorter in the width and 2-½ inches shorter in the length. These allowances are what allows the door to open and close freely and effectively.
You must make sure that you can install the door frame within your measured rough-ins.
Below is a quick tip for every rough-in installation and checking:
- Before installing either the door or the door jamb, you need to make sure that the rough-in is ready for the following door work. A level and a plumped rough-in will make your job much easier.
- Make sure the sub sill is in the best possible position. If not, you will need to use a level bar or wooden shims to resolve the issue.
- Place a board on the door to make sure the rough-ins are the right size.
- Remove the door set from its packaging. And try not to make any dents and scratches, as this will make the process go faster.
Leveling and the Final Process
- In the installation process, it is advisable to keep everything level with the aid of some shims.
- Put a shim on the hinges of the door. This will help the door to move freely on the hinges and will give you the best connection with the door.
- Adjust both shims and door jamb until you have a level door. Also, check the gap between the door and the edges of the frame.
- Secure the jambs; this can be done by using 3-inch screws where the hinges are.
Note: Both the installation of screws and nails will play a vital role in this process. So, if you are unsure, it is best to leave the job to those that have the skill and the knowledge of the entire installation process.
